How are low collections and down markets similar?

In this video clip, Reese Harper and Ryan Isaac point out how dentists—while looking forward to the long-term benefits of practice ownership—accept declines in collections or declines in practice value as part of being in business. So why is it, when it comes to investments, they back out of that long-term view and don’t end up seeing the benefits the market can provide?
